ANNAMARIA IGNARRO (IT/BE)

Fotografie, lavoro in corso

ANNAMARIA IGNARRO (IT/BE)
Let’s begin from the table, the one you find in a kitchen, at home, everywhere. Everything happens at the table - you laugh, you cry, you eat, you talk, you dream, you live. You live it with yourself and with others, but depending on where you sit, your perspective changes. It changes in that moment, but what interests me is the change over time. The change of who we are, our thoughts, our ways of doing and our being.
The time has come for me to build my own table, which actually is not entirely mine. I want to share it with you, so you are invited to have a seat and become part of my life. It will be my point of departure but also my point of return - my roots, you can say. From there, I will explore the relationship between a place and the multiplicities of our experiences which alter our perspectives. I will present moments and memories gathered here, and the possibility to experience this world through my eyes, my ears and my soul. I give myself the opportunity to restructure and reinvent the way in which I present myself to you and to the world. I will present my process of disembodiment, that in which I’m currently living. This process deals with the disembodiment of beliefs and labels which do not serve me and the embodiment of new beliefs which do serve me.
Through music, video and words, we will poetically discover the fragility of the temporary, the voices of Toffian places and the transformation of the flavour of an existence.
AnnaMaria Ignarro grew up in a melting pot of cultures, surrounded by a multitude of people, languages and sounds. This has influenced her own language and open-mindedness around the meaning and importance of diversity and self-expression. After studying classical clarinet in the United States, she moved to Belgium to concentrate on contemporary music, leading her to a journey of improvisation. From puppet theatre performances for children, to exploring non-verbal communication for people with disabilities, her projects weave together themes of authenticity, storytelling, embodiment and acceptance. These endeavours have also created possibilities to explore the co-existing dimensions of her artistic expression. Currently based in Brussels, AnnaMaria is learning to accept her complexities, to understand how her past weaves into the present and how she can continue exploring and sharing the unique essence of her identity.

The theory of Epigenetics states that the egg that created you was formed inside of your mother’s foetus while she was inside of your grandmother’s womb. Studies have proven that when we are initially created, we inherit biological and psychological traits at least three generations back - to the mental and physical health of our grandmother. This signifies we can then inherit oppression, hardships, and loss, carrying not only our own burdens but the ones of those who came before us. Therefore, we can understand that the body is a site for personal and communal transformation. This work was created through researching gestures of loss and grief creating a language of new symbols which can guide us into the multi-layered experience of body memory.
Morphology of Breath
Photographs/Work in progress
"Establishing a metamorphosis through breath - a rhythmic movement, regular and tireless, a wave without noise that goes out to the limits of the horizon and comes back to us to brush against our bodies and explode into our lungs". Emanuele Coocia
The depth of breath and motion of the material will creates a constant morphology within the space. The space of the work will contain a direct relationship between the metamorphosis of the bodies in space and the ancient elementary movement of breath. Intimate dimensions that exist in the infinite layers we contain starting from our essence, then extending through our body. The impenetrable illumination casts its light far beyond our shadows, but how far?
